Gabriel Pizza shares the Love – Ollie’s Pizza raises $13,200 to help local kids with cancer

Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Support Programs is thrilled to announce $13,200 was raised through the Ollie’s Pizza campaign at Gabriel Pizza. Launched May 1, 2020, Gabriel’s donated a portion of every Ollie’s Pizza purchased for the rest of 2020. The delicious cheese and green olive pizza was created in honour of a young Ottawa boy named Ollie. Gabriel Pizza learned of his love for it through his mother, Dawn Pickering’s blog Ollie’s Bump In the Road chronicling Ollie and his family’s journey with childhood cancer.  In April 2020, during a rough stretch in Ollie’s treatment while in Toronto at Sick Kids Hospital, all Ollie wanted was his favourite green olive and cheese pizza, which Gabriel Pizza delivered to him, in Toronto!  The result was a HUGE smile on his face, and thus the campaign was launched shortly thereafter with a goal of putting a smile on the faces on many more childhood cancer patients.

The Ollie’s Pizza campaign continues – Gabriel Pizza extends campaign through 2021

Ollie is now eight and doing well. He recently shared with Candlelighters Executive Director, Jocelyn Lamont, that Gabriel Pizza will continue the Ollie’s Pizza campaign into 2021 and continue their support of families like his dealing with a childhood cancer diagnosis.

“Gabriel Pizza are tremendous community partners and we are very excited they are continuing with Ollie’s Pizza”, says Lamont. “With over 70 children receiving a cancer diagnosis in 2020, this campaign enables us to put smiles on many faces by providing much needed resources that make a real tangible impact in the lives of families coping with childhood cancer. Thank you to Gabriel Pizza for this tremendous support!”

“We were truly touch by Ollie’s love for our green olive pizza.  We are delighted to support Candlelighters by extending the Ollie’s Pizza campaign for 2021”, says President George Hanna. “Ollie and the entire family have become honourary members of our Gabes family. We send all our heartfelt best wishes and cheer on Ollie’s recovery.”

Ollie’s Pizza for Candlelighters

Created by Ollie and Made with Gabriel Pizza Love

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA, April 30, 2020 – Gabriel Pizza is thrilled to announce Ollie’s Pizza – the newest creation to the Gabe’s menu with a portion of the proceeds going to the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Support Programs.

Ollie is a sweet seven-year old Ottawa boy, who developed a bump on his neck and late in 2019 was diagnosed with Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma. Ollie and his family are currently in Toronto receiving care at Sick Kids Hospital.

Gabriel Pizza recently learned of Ollie’s love for our green olive pizza through Dawn Pickering, Ollie’s mother, who has a regular blog, Ollie’s Bump In the Road. She shares how Ollie has been going through a rough stretch and is depressed. All he wants to do is come home and have his favourite pizza. The next day, Ollie and his family had hot Gabes pizza delivered to Toronto to put a smile on his face.

With the families blessing and in honour of Ollie, Ollie’s Pizza – a cheese and green olive pizza – was established. Beginning Friday, May 1st, a portion of each sale will be donated Candlelighters, a local charity that enriches the lives of children, and their families, coping with childhood cancer.

“Candlelighters is so excited to enter into this community partnership with Gabriel Pizza and are thrilled about this project”, say Candlelighters Executive Director Jocelyn Lamont. “Ollie’s Pizza is going to impact families of children with cancer right across the region. Thank you to Gabriel Pizza for this tremendous support!”

“We were truly touch by Ollie’s love for our green olive pizza”, says President George Hanna. “Ollie and the entire family have become honourary members of our Gabes family. We send all our heartfelt best wishes and cheer on Ollie’s recovery.”
