With the fear of death, the worry about medical treatments, and concern over role changes at home and/or at work, childhood cancer is overwhelming. It is a new, devastating and isolating world filled with the unknown. Childhood cancer is devastating for families as it is not just the child that is impacted, but whole families live with the challenges presented along the childhood cancer journey. Parents feel alone and unsure, siblings feel abandoned and afraid and no one seems to understand.

As patients and their families progress from the on-treatment and maintenance phases of active treatment through off-treatment, AfterCare and survivorship, the need for support continues as each stage of the journey includes transitions and adjustments in daily life routines and the ongoing development of coping strategies that allow for families to function effectively as individuals and as a family unit.
