Kathleen Elizabeth Ward and E. Neville Ward Legacy Endowment Fund
Kathleen was born June 12, 1906 in Kemptville, Ontario, moved to Brockville, Ontario in 1917 and graduated from Brockville Collegiate Institute in 1924. She began a one year course at Ottawa Normal School (Teachers College) in September 1924. Graduating in 1925, she taught grades 1-8 in one room schools in the Ottawa area for three years.
In 1927, Kathleen began a two year Household Science degree program at Macdonald Institute, University of Guelph. Graduating in 1929, she taught Home Economics until 1934 when she took a one year exchange to Reading, England and traveled extensively in Europe.
Married in 1942, Kathleen worked as a dietician at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and taught Home Economics in Toronto and Dundas, Ontario. She retired in 1971 and enjoyed many trips throughout Canada and Europe well into her 80’s.
Kathleen died at home under the loving care of her son Neville in her 101st year on October 30, 2006.
In August 2009, Neville established the Kathleen Elizabeth Ward and E. Neville Ward Legacy Endowment Fund at Candlelighters in honour of his mother. The Fund provides financial assistance for the provision of resource materials to families through books, videos and DVD’s and binders of medical information. Neville chose to support this cause in honour of his mother’s strong belief of providing opportunities to children and youths to realize their many potentials early in their lives.
